General News, What's Shakin'? »

In case you haven’t been reading the news lately, most of the headlines are now about how major Democrats, pushing ahead for the 2006 elections, are unleashing a rampage against President Bush.  Here’s official proof.
Jimmy Carter:
Former President Carter is urging northern Nevadans to elect his son, Jack, to the Senate to help combat a Bush administration he says has brought “international disgrace” to the country.
Sen. Hillary Clinton:
U.S. is “in a deep hole, and Republicans don’t want to quit digging.
Oliver Stone:
Saying Bush has “set America back 10 years.”
Bob Woodward:
Bush Ignored Urgent …

Ken Ahroni is the founder and president of Lucky Break Wishbones, a site that sells, sure enough, plastic wishbones. It was listed here as one of the “Totally Dumb Ideas that made it Big Time.” I’m sure Ken Ahroni is crying all the way to the bank…
BPN: Where did the idea for plastic wishbones strike you?
KA: It was 1999 and one of those years when my birthday actually fell on Thanksgiving Day. Like everyone who has ever sat around a Thanksgiving table, after the …

Since I’m a longtime nerd, I’m always a big fan when a gadget comes out that has the potential to change our lives for the better.  The kind of gadget that you’d expect to see in 2006 if you were Marty McFly in Back to the Future.
Sony’s releasing one.  The Sony Reader, instead of eBooks, is actual hardware you can carry around that uses hi-tech screen technology to have an image about as clear as you’d expect a real book to be.
You know I’m not pimping this product out for …

Of all the tons of Terrell Owens (see below) coverage I’ve seen/read today, this is by far the best, by Michael Silver of Sports Illustrated:
Right now, I’m tempted to go after him again, for what I perceive to be a whitewashing of the truth by him and his camp following Tuesday’s hospitalization. When I heard Etheredge complain that the Dallas cops were “taking advantage of T.O.” and insist that Owens “has 25 million reasons why he should be alive” (which shows a complete lack of understanding about the nature of …

First, I’m sure most of you have heard the story by now:  Dallas wide receiver Terrell Owens was taken to the hospital last night.  The real question, now being asked on ESPN and NFL Network and everywhere else was, is why?
He and his publicist, Kim Etheridge, are saying that the police report – for which Dallas police had to make a sworn statement – is wrong.
Here’s what the police report says:

Owens was treated at Baylor for a drug overdose.  Not some silly “supplement and painkiller” mixture.
Owens answered in the affirmative when …

After Bill Clinton lost his cool aggressively defended his counter-terrorism strategies on Fox News, Condoleezza Rice dropped the first bomb from the Bush Administration:
“What we did in the eight months was at least as aggressive as what the Clinton administration did in the preceding years,” said Rice.
I can’t tell if she meants that Bush’s eight months equalled Clinton’s eight years, but in terms of results, that seems fair.  No one being caught is no one being caught no matter how long it takes.  0=0.  The war on terrorism started on Sept. …

Bill Clinton’s recent anger against right-wingers for saying he didn’t do enough to capture Osama bin Laden – being discussed on our boards - seemed to really upset Fox News anchor Chris Wallace, who did the interview.  Says he:
The President was clearly stung by any suggestion that he had not done everything he could to get bin Laden. He attacked right-wingers–accused me of a “conservative hit job”–and even spun a theory I still don’t understand that somehow Fox was trying to cover up the fact that NewsCorp. chief Rupert Murdoch was supporting …

Making the rounds for his new movie, Apocalypto, releasing in December, Mel Gibson appeared in Austin at Fantastic Fest, and unleashed a spout against the Iraq War:
(Reuters) In describing its portrait of a civilization in decline, Gibson said, “The precursors to a civilization that’s going under are the same, time and time again,” drawing parallels between the Mayan civilization on the brink of collapse and America’s present situation. “What’s human sacrifice,” he asked, “if not sending guys off to Iraq for no reason?”
I hate to be one of those guys …

Forbes recently came out with its always-awesome “Top 400 richest People on the Planet” issue, and for the first time, all 400 are billionaires, at the very least.  No silly little millionaires here!  Haha!  The top two haven’t changed in a while, but there’s a new number three, casino magnate Sheldon Adelston.  Here they are:
1.  Bill Gates (Microsoft) $53 billion
2.  Warren Buffet (investor) $46 billion
3.  Sheldon Adelston (casinos, hotels) $20 billion
4. Lawrence Ellison (Oracle) $19 billion
5.  Paul Allen (Microsoft) $16 billion
6-8.  Various Waltons (Walmart) about $15.6 billion each
9.  Michael Dell (Dell Computers) $15.5 billion
10. Another Walton $15.5 …

One of the main beefs creationists/non-evolutionists have with the Theory of Evolution is that there is supposedly a lack of fossil evidence to support it: we have ape bones, human bones, so where are all the ape-man bones?
Bam!
Non-evolutionists probably aren’t aware of Runaway Theory, which suggests that evolution as a process (like ape brain to current human brain) happens really fast, and all at once, instead of at some steady and magical fixed pace.
The significance of this new discovery?  Apparently, all scientists wanted to know is if this species could …
