Caution: This Religion is Extremely Flammable

Perhaps it’s that, relative to its beginnings, Islam is in the equivalent of Christianity’s Middle Ages.  Maybe every religion has to go through its adolescent phase before it grows up.  But Muslim extremists can’t seem to calm down after Pope Benedict XVI quoted an old emperor who called Islam “evil and inhuman.”

From ThisIsLondon:

A notorious Muslim extremist told a demonstration in London yesterday that the Pope should face execution.

Anjem Choudary said those who insulted Islam would be “subject to capital punishment”.

Well, we don’t have capital punishment on our side of the religious fence.  All I see here is an entire faction of Islam in complete “reaction” mode, and just like after the Denmark cartoon controversy, things are being burned and turbans are flying.

The way I now see it, the world is full of two types of people:  proactive people and reactive people.  The proactive people are the more rare ones, the ones usually hated or envied, and naturally the ones most reacted to.  The people doing the reacting are only doing so because they have nothing else better going for them.

Catholocism has aged well, but Islam has a lot of growing up to do.  I understand that it’s just a “small faction” making noise, but they’re good at it.  And they’re dangerous.  Pope Benedict XVI doesn’t owe anyone an apology for quoting someone, and Islam doesn’t owe anyone a statement about how wrong it is.  Go on with your lives and stop getting offended.
