Serious calls for immigration reform

In the latest episode of the illegal immigration saga, the U.S. House and Senate are back in full swing these last couple of days with, I must say, some pretty interesting proposals.

While the Senate debates a bill that would authorize a 700-mile fence that would span approximately one-third of the U.S.-Mexican border, the House is considering action that would target people who aim to sneak in illegal aliens and drugs through underground tunnels.

We have all heard about the fence idea, I’m sure. But the underground tunnels proposal? I have to admit that this is a creative piece of legislation. Hopefully, the House thinks so too when the final vote comes.

In another bill that passed the House yesterday by a vote of 228-196, voters will eventually have to produce evidence that they are legal citizens.

This author applauds the work that both chambers of Congress are conducting. In an age when illegal immigration is posing serious financial and security risks to the U.S., among others, drastic measures need to be taken now before this crisis totally overcomes the country.
