Bears Media Watch, Part II
Now that we’re post-Media Day, this seems like a fitting tmie to post part II of my two-part series about what everyone’s saying about the Bears and Superbowl XLI.
Let’s start with Bill Simmons, who took pictures at the event:
Hey, Bears fans? Good luck entrusting your Super Bowl hopes to a QB who’s a dead ringer for Frankie Muniz. Seriously, best wishes with that.
Normally, I like Bill Simmons, but saying Rex looks like Frankie Muniz and saying “Good luck! Haw haw haw!” is beneath him. It’s the kind of joke that insecure, middle-aged sportswriters make. Wait a minute…
Overall, though, his pictures had funny comments with them. The typical carnival of weird interviewers werethere, including two American Idol idiot contestants who have become famous because they’re ugly and idiots.
He also took a few shots at getting “The Manning Face,” which is right here:

Speaking of weirdo sportswriters, John Clayton, hit me:
During a Super Bowl XLI media session, Jones was asked to compare himself to a car. He picked a Ferrari. That’s him. He’s quick. He turns corners on a dime. Once in the open field, Jones can accelerate.
Benson has struggled all season to find himself and has yet to hit the comfort zone Jones has had throughout his Bears days. Benson and Jones share the position, but Jones is clearly the lead.
For those of us that watched the Bears games, as Terry Boers and Dan Bernstein pointed out on the Score today, not only is Benson bigger and meaner, he’s faster than Jones. Clayton is writing about his perception of Jones. Tsk, tsk.

Of course, Thomas Jones agrees with Clayton:
“Cedric is more of a downhill guy, a bruiser back,” Jones said.
Though I don’t want to knock Jones, who has been stepping up his game for the playoffs and had over a hundred yards in the NFC Championship. I’m the first one to hope that Thomas Jones runs for 250 yards and wins MVP, but I also want Rex and Urlacher to win MVP, and they only give out shares of MVP awards to Brett Favre.
There was an interesting piece by Dr. Z of Sports Illustrated in which he broke down the Colts vs. Bears, position by position, and gave either team an advantage or tie.
On defense, he has the Bears winning 8-2-2. (He counted nickel/dime packages into the mix).
On offense, Colts 6-3-2. Fair enough.
Special teams? Bears, 3-1. And we lost that single one because Robbie Gould, the Pro Bowl kicker, is going up against the greatest clutch kicker of all time. Overall, that puts the Bears at 14-9-4. In case you didn’t notice, Dr. Z likes the Bears.
Overall, the spread of the game has dropped a half a point, and the Bears are still touchdown underdogs. I hope it’s a relief to take on the underdog role so that the Colts are the ones who feel the pressure, and the Bears win overall. Go Bears.
