White History Month: Benjamin Franklin

Despite the complaints negative feedback I’ve received during White History Month, I don’t want to start a series on this blog without finishing it.

Maybe you find it in poor taste, but you can’t call it racist, otherwise what’s the point of history months? So for another late-week addition to our Great Whites in History, we have the founding father of soul:  Benjamin Franklin.

It’s hard to describe what Benjamin Franklin means to America, and white people as a whole.  It might be simpler to describe what he didn’t do during his remarkable lifetime, if I could only think of something he didn’t do.

Benjamin Franklin was the Leonardo da Vinci of America (another great white in history), a renassaince man who discovered that lightning was electricity (not electricity itself), and that Almanacs sell like hot cakes.

He also contributed to late 20th Century African-American culture by appearing on the $100 bill, coining the phrase “all about the Benjamins.”  Certainly, Benjamin Franklin is a white man to be admired, respected, and appreciated during this special time for my people.  Thank you.
