This past weekend, me, my brothers, and some friends convened to watch the NFL Draft (the first round in full – all six-plus hours of it). It’s one of the coolest weekends every year. It’s so cool, that my brother Mike decided to chronicle our adventures with a tape recorder.
Here are the people who will be appearing in this diary:
Mike – Dan’s older brother and recorder
Dan – Yours truly
Ohl – College friend of Mike’s and draft expert
Joe – Dan’s younger brother
Al – Mike’s other college friend; host of the event
Justin …

Tacking on another notch in the “road until the Matrix movies comes true” chart, scientists have successfully been able to create a device that simulates half a mouse brain.
A mouse brain contains something like eight million neurons, each of which can form up to 8,000 neural connections to other neurons – meaning, in effect, even a mouse’s brain is vastly complex.
Luckily, we’re not that close to artificially intelligent robots – the mouse brain could only “think” at the rate of 10:1 as a real mouse brain.
My question: how do they …

In the Kenitz household, the NFL Draft time is nearly as sacred as the Superbowl. I’m going to be pretty much inactive this weekend as we all group together along with a few friends and revel in the pure football coverage that ESPN provides Saturday and Sunday.
My older brother Mike will be taking down a diary of this weekend’s events, and you can look forward to that here on the blog.

Another study confirming the obvious was released Thursday, this time in Ireland. Apparently, if you send text messages like “wr R u?”, you’re not actually developing your language skills.
The report laments that, in many cases, candidates seemed “unduly reliant on short sentences, simple tenses and a limited vocabulary”.
I love technology, but I think one thing we ignore is that our reliance on it will only serve to dull our senses and skills. But then, why not ask the question: who needs an extended vocabulary anyway, if you …

Alec Baldwin is definitely making the best of a bad situation. Instead of complaining about being horribly embarrassed after his message to his daughter was released, he’s signing on to all the top TV shows and working on a book.
In other words, Alec Baldwin has gone from run-of-the-mill liberal celebrity to controversial icon.
Consider this:
Alec Baldwin is releasing a book on divorce that’s going to get tons more attention now
He’s entered a symbiotic fame relationship with Dr. Phil McGraw.
He’s now going to “devote himself to the field of parental alienation.” …

I’m making a glorious return of destiny to my alma mater, Cardinal Stritch University, this morning at 9:30 a.m. in order to speak to a class on Mass Media.
I’m not good at public speaking, and I’ve only prepared what I’m going to say in my head, so here’s how I imagine my speech going:

I’ve been accused of not being funny on multiple occasions when I write columns in the Journal-Sentinel, and I’ve also been accused of being funny. I don’t know what to believe sometimes, but according to Ellis Weiner, since I’m a conservative, I am decidedly unfunny.
Why? According to Weiner, most of us aren’t actually conservatives. And Jon Stewart? He just makes fun of incumbents:
…political humor, by definition, is anti-power. It makes fun of those in power — that’s what makes it political humor to begin with.
Actually, political humor, …

Being the nerd-like follower of space news that I am, I think it’s likely you won’t hear anything in the news today as significant as this.
A telescope in the Chilean Andes, of all places, spotted a planet 20.5 million light years away that has many of the same characteristics of Earth.
If you’re familiar with Rare Earth hypothesis, this is huge news. Rare Earth hypothesis essentially says that for another planet to support life like Earth does, it would be extremely unlikely. So unlikely that even the billions of …

Sgt. Jim Wilt is outraged that America honored 33 Virginia Tech students with national media attention and by flying our flags at half staff while our dead in Iraq get no such honor.
Thanks for pointing this out, Sgt. Wilt. You’re bleeping right.
Here’s why.
If liberals are obsessed with quoting how many U.S. troops are killed, and yet only use their deaths to press the issues (much like they used Virginia Tech to press on gun control), why not honor the dead they supposedly love so much?
If they’re so in support …

In this world of selective “Al Sharpton” moralism, it’s nice to have an organization that isn’t afraid to tell us what is and isn’t good.
Like the Catholic Church.
Archbishop Angelo Amato, secretary for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, denounced gay marriage and abortion as being part of terrorism with a human face. The criticisms are coming as a result of what Amato feels is poor media coverage of the Italian media.
This is just guesswork, but if Archbishop Angel lived in America, what do you think he would …
