Things aren’t going so well for Bush, which isn’t new news since about 2003, but yesterday was a particularly bad day for him:
Ding, dong, the immigration bill is finally dead – after being put on Terry Schiavo-style life support in the past couple of weeks.  The Senate voted 53-46 (oddly put at “46 to 53″ by CNN; maybe I’m not familiar with these things) not to advance the bill, meaning that the 12 million illegals here in the United States are going to have the same situation for a while.
The …

I wish that were the headline on CNN today.  I don’t know if any of you watched Larry King’s interview with Paris Hilton last night, or Anderson Cooper’s “360″ coverage of the interview itself.  Yes, that means a two-hour block of time on the Cable News Network was dedicated exclusively to Paris Hilton.
(But I’m writing a blog post about it, so it’s a blog post about a news segment about an interview with an inconsequential person).
This isn’t just a knock on CNN – I turned the channel and Fox News …

Yesterday and Monday, we learned that pro wrestler Chris Benoit (Ben-waaah), former WWE champ and owner of the crippler crossface, went absolutely daffy and killed his wife and son, laid a bible near their bodies, and then hung himself using gym equipment in the basement.  Just one more installment of 49.99 to pay off that Bowflex, too.
Of course, only until we discovered how truly cookoo this was did it start getting national attention.  CNN and Fox News on Monday night were much too busy reporting about some pregnant woman who …

Back in January, I took a tally of the Presidential race by having a 5-deep “Power Ranking” of the current candidates.  It’s been about six months, so I think it’s a good time to check back in and see some new names and new positions.
Remember, this isn’t who I support.  I’m basing these rankings off of who I see as having a real shot at the Presidency.
1.  Hillary Clinton (Previous: 1)
The only problem with being out front this early is the possible of peaking early; for Hillary, I don’t think …

I don’t know how many of you have heard of “The Secret,” the latest self-help craze that’s sweeping the nation.  Many of the self-help gurus who appeared in the DVD have gone on Oprah and probably seen huge spikes in business.
If you haven’t seen it, essentially “The Secret” talks about the Law of Attraction and how, in life, you often get what you think about.
It has a lot of critics.
While “The Secret” has become a pop culture phenomenon, it also has drawn critics who are not quiet about labeling the …

In another edition of “why mainstream news is horrible,” we have this. An article from MSNBC talking about the bias of journalists and how freely they spend toward supporting particular political candidates. This is particularly for BPN Forum member Flarking Smoo, who claims there’s no liberal bias in the media.
MSNBC.com identified 144 journalists who made political contributions from 2004 through the start of the 2008 campaign, according to the public records of the Federal Election Commission. Most of the newsroom checkbooks leaned to the left: 125 journalists gave …

A very interesting article out of Canada.com (The National Post), which talks about our current science’s inability to understand climate change and the effect humans have on it.
We are assured by everyone from David Suzuki to Al Gore to Prime Minister Stephen Harper that “the science is settled.”…The fact that science is many years away from properly understanding global climate doesn’t seem to bother our leaders at all…
Essentially, what drives global climate isn’t the pipsquekness of humans – believe it or not – it’s something more powerful than that:  the …

Fred Thompson appears to be leading the polls for Republicans right now, despite not formally being in the race.  He edged Giuliani by one percent in one poll.  Again:  a guy who isn’t running for president yet.  It’s obvious that he will, but I wonder about the timing of this.  Do you come out and say “Here I am!” at the first sign of success, or do you continue to play it cool and build anticipation?  I say, wait for now.
Michael Bloomberg left the GOP, saying his plans are to …

The Vatican interestingly decided to release 10 Commandments for good, uh, motorism with a document called “Guidelines for the Pastoral Care of the Road.”  It’s an interesting acknowledgment of the process people go through when entering traffic – turning into hairy cavemen.
“Cars tend to bring out the ‘primitive’ side of human beings, thereby producing rather unpleasant results,” the document said.
Some of the commandments?

Thou Shall Not Drive Under The Influence of Alcohol
Thou Shall Respect Speed Limits
Thou Shall Not Consider a Car an Object of Personal Glorification

It’s also interesting to note that …

President Bush called for Congress to stop spending so liberally (my term) recently, even though he’s the highest-spending Republican since Republicans started existing.
President George W. Bush blasted Democrats on Saturday for bloated annual federal spending bills and threatened to use his veto liberally, despite failing to carry out similar threats in the past.
While I agree with this article about the “despite failing to carry out similar threats in the past,” (a simple review of the 2007 budget will see this is true), it doesn’t belong in the first paragraph.  Any …
