Finally, Something We Can All Agree On

Mitt Romney might have just won himself a spot higher on the BipolarNation Presidential Power Rankings.  For years, this phenomenon in today’s technological world has gone unnoticed and ignored by the government:

Internet pop-ups.

It’s not just that; it’s the unwanted internet porn popups that drive you crazy.  I was just looking at a website about the War of 1812!

“And you know, type in a wrong letter and bingo, you get all sorts of stuff you didn’t want, that I’d just as soon my kids not get,” added Romney, who’s a father of five and grandfather of 10. “You can get filters, and yet they keep finding ways around the filters.”

I think we could all agree on getting rid of pop-ups forever.  Does anyone out there LIKE popups, except the spammy creators of “whose legs are these?” advertisements?

However, if the government is going to step in on things like this, I wish it would stay away from the things we willfully choose.  When the online gambling ban occurred recently, poker players across the country found themselves frustrated that they could spend their own money in the way they choose.

The internet is a new landscape, and I’d prefer to see it untouched.  If a President can take away my pop-ups, though, he’s won a few points.

This is being inconsistent. Pop-ups wouldn’t have lasted more than a week if they didn’t generate money for the companies that make them. People do choose to click on them and presumably some of these people even buy the products being advertised. As much as we’d like to believe that nobody will put up with them, Pop-ups, like online gambling sites, have a pretty strong customer base.

Actually, that makes a lot of sense to me. I’ve clarified this in my posts on the forums now - I’m FOR Firefox and against internet regulation.
