Do Any of the Presidential Candidates Resonate With You?

I was just thinking of this yesterday. Of all the leading Presidential candidates, do any of them actually strike a chord with you? I have difficulty imagining people being literally excited about the possibility that Hillary Clinton will be our next President, or that Rudy Giuliani will get to ride huge helicopters.

In fact, on our own boards, the only time I remember someone being close to excited about one of these candidates is Flarking Smoo - about Ron Paul, the most unelectable candidate the Republicans have.

On the Democrats’ side, I can see people being excited about change. But is it anything more than “John Kerry at least isn’t George Bush” change?

Then, I had the realization: it’s because most of these politicians (except, say, Ron Paul) are totally unwilling to say what they think about policy.

The Republicans are skipping minority debates and the Democrats won’t even pledge to be out of Iraq by 2013 - not that I think they should. But when a huge part of your campaign is being anti-War (as is Obama’s), and you can’t even make a decisive statement about what you’d do about it, you have a recipe for NOT resonating with people.

That’s why I’m excited for the Iowa caucuses. When frontrunners start to emerge, and those in the second tier can’t afford not to stir the pot anymore, we’ll start seeing them at their most interesting (see: Howard Dean). Unfortunately, by then, it will probably be too little, too late.

Do any of the candidates currently resonate with you, and if so, why?
