Ahmadinejad’s Got Centrifuges (And That Wasn’t Jibberish)
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is claiming that his country has hit a key target in developing its nuclear weapons program, reaching 3,000 centrifuges for uranium enrichment.
Scary! Now…what exactly is a centrifuge?
Supposedly, a country with 3,000 centrifuges can produce enough uranium (as part of its uranium enrichment program) to produce a nuclear weapon within one year. So if Ahmadinejad’s claims are true, you can expect Iran to go nuclear in 2008-2009.
So it’s a real threat, even if Iran’s not actually quite there yet. With Ahmadinejad defiant to the U.N. (then again, who isn’t, really), we’re looking at the major foreign policy story for the future President.
If you were president, how would you handle this?
