Evangelicals Boost Huckabee to #1 in Iowa

It’s been a while since I’ve done the BPN Presidential Power Rankings - I’m waiting for Iowa. But if I did one right now, no one would increase as much as Mike Huckabee. Check out the latest Iowa polls:

  1. Mike Huckabee: 28%
  2. Mitt Romney: 25%
  3. Rudy Giuliani: 12%
  4. Fred Thompson: 11%
  5. Everyone else: poo

Huckabee is bolstered by a dominating performance thus far with Iowa Evangelical Christians: 48% of them support Huckabee. That’s more than the rest combined, with Romney getting 16% of their support.

Dominant. One could argue that Chuck Norris is responsible for all of this.

As far as I’m concerned, Huckabee needs to be considered a top-tier candidate now - maybe even second to Giuliani. The only thing that stands in Huckabee’s way are the actual Iowa caucus results - we don’t actually know what they’ll be, and Huckabee’s surprise arrival isn’t such a surprise anymore.

Still, at least the Republican race actually seems up for grabs - on the Democratic side, it’s Hillary vs. the field. Not so much for Rudy.

If you had to predict who gets the Republican nomination, who do you choose right now?
