After the recent shootings at Northern Illinois University, one of my first thoughts was to ask myself a tough political question. Should/could we prevent further attacks like this with stricter gun laws?
It took me about fifteen seconds to come to my senses. No, of course not: less guns aren’t the answer. Less gun bans are.
Gun restrictions are just a line in a littany of “protect you from yourself” regulations we get from liberals all the time. We can’t be trusted to eat trans fats, we …

A few years back, my brother was still at Marquette University in Milwaukee. He had a roommate that once asked an interesting question (and a question, I should point out, that I then asked to BipolarNation on the message boards). It goes like this:
How many five year olds could you take in a fight?
The question became a sort of internet phenomenon, for whatever reason (if I knew, I would be creating lots of them), and now someone has set up an official site for the question.
There are some …

I think the title is pretty self-explanatory.  When you see these people over and over for months and years on end, you start to notice things you wouldn’t otherwise notice.  Here are some eerily similar looking people:

Left:  Barack Obama.  Right:  Dr. Ian Smith from “Celebrity Fit Club”

Left:  “Meet the Press” moderator Tim Russert.  Right:  Jack Black.

Left:  Cindy McCain, wife of John McCain.  Right:  The T-Rex from “Jurassic Park.”

Left:  Former Senator Fred Thompson.  Right:  The old white guy inside Darth Vader.

Since 2000 I can remember going category-by-category and predicting who would win each Oscar, but I’ve never posted my predictions up on BipolarNation before the actual night.  Considering that the Oscars are this Sunday and I only have this one weekday to post before it happens, it’s the perfect time to do it.
Get pumped, baby!  It’s the Oscars!  Even in a relatively weak year like this (though not as bad as the 2006 awards; remember “Crash” beating out “Brokeback Mountain”?), this is always fun.  The beauty of picking the Oscars …

Politics.
To those of you regular readers and those of you who participate in the BipolarNation.com political forums, I’m going to go ahead and trust that you’re of above average intelligence and don’t need an introduction into politics.
The superior demographic of BPN readers aside, there are a lot of people out there, particularly youngsters, who don’t have a clue about politics or what it means.
This used to be me – for decades I spent life on Earth wandering around, asking “what’s the difference between a liberal and a conservative?”
I particularly remember …

Star wars time, baby! The U.S. is set to shoot down the USA-193 spy satellite as early as tonight, which was launched in December of ‘06. For whatever reason, ground controllers lost contact with the satellite after it was launched.
Behind all of the War on Terrorism news, the Space Race has been harboring some secret tensions between the U.S., Russia, and China.
China and Russia have expressed concerns about a US plan to shoot down what officials in Washington say is a crippled spy satellite, with that event to …

Update 2/19: As if on cue, Ben and Jerry has come out with their new flavor of ice cream supporting Obama, “Cherries for Change.”
It’s easier to listen to Ashy Larry talk than it is to read about his policy. In Wisconsin, which has its primary coming up, we’ve been inundated with Barack Obama’s “pro-Good Things” TV ads.As far as I can tell, Obama supports world peace and more jobs, and probably rainbows and sunshine. Hey! He’s so generic and vague, even I agree with some of …

If I Ruled America »

[15 Feb 2008 | No Comment | ]

In my series “If I Ruled America,” I’ve already talked about what kind of country I’d like to see. So far I’ve covered the overview of my government and what kind of foreign policy that government would have.
If I Ruled America: Foreign Policy
If I Ruled America: Preamble
Now, I will talk about what I think is another aspect of defense, a subcategory of “military” that I think the government can claim to be responsible for: infrastructure.
Fascists can get the trains running on time; unfortunately, they’re also fascist. …

To a pro-lifer, even writing the “Barack Obama” and “Abraham Lincoln” in the same blog post makes me feel like throwing up, but I can’t help but notice some interesting parallels (and perpendicularities) between the two politicians from Illinois.  So I thought I’d make a list of them, just to keep track of it in my mind.
Some of this is relevant (like experience), some isn’t (like how tall they are).
Similarities (yup, there are some):

Both politicians rose to fame in Illinois, though the state is now known as the “Land of …

So let me get this straight: you’re over 50, have been Catholic all your life, used your faith to get you through some “tough times” (well, if you consider puberty a universal trial), and you’ve held to Catholicism all your life. Then, the media rides the “molestation” wave, and now – NOW – after all these years, you’re ready to give it up?
Idiots like this exist.
Writing the community column for the Milwaukee paper, the Journal-Sentinel, Jeff “M.” Jensen, had this to say:
Like most of my contemporaries, the plunge …
