Bleepin’ Republicans: Back Romney!
Republicans, it’s time to stand up behind Mitt Romney. This baloney has gone on far enough: Huckabee won Iowa and took momentum from Mitt, and the independents captured votes in New Hampshire to make McCain the frontrunner. All the while, big conservatives denounced both candidates without providing the alternative.
It’s Mitt Romney.
Wednesday night, McCain admonished Romney on his business record: “Some people lost their jobs” when Romney was in charge. Romney laughed. That’s business. McCain said he fought for “patriotism” not “profit.”
Profit isn’t a dirty word. Reagan said that. McCain is no Reagan footsoldier.
We have nothing left until Super Tuesday except jabs and talk: no more debates, no more primaries. And if Republicans don’t support Mitt Romney, John McCain will be the Republican nominee. Someone who disparages Mitt Romney for turning profits. Our “conservative” straight talker? Full of economic manurematter.
Too many people still side with Huckabee - he needs to get out of the race and endorse Mitt. He’s John Edwards now, just taking votes away, and at least Edwards had the class to get out before Super Tuesday. The southern states, states Romney can beat McCain in, will be split.
McCain is winning because of independent enthusiasm. Even in Florida apparently. He never does well in the Republican vote, despite appealing to the base with relentlessness. How many times can you say “Reagan” and still fail to resonate?
He’s got the security record, a former military man with combat credibility. No one doubts that terrorism is his strongsuit. But that’s only part of the equation. Both Huckabee and Romney support expanding the military; I’d feel safe with them as commander-in-chief even though they weren’t POWs. George W. Bush, a baseball owner from Texas, makes me feel safe because there’s a Republican in charge.
All the candidates are Pro-life; Romney’s the shakiest but seems solid now. The candidates are fairly equal on social issues, except that I feel like we’d still have a welfare state with McCain.
So what separates them? Romney is the best economic candidate, and even though the big issue today is the recession, no one’s getting behind him. I can only think of two Romney endorsements. How about Republicans get behind this guy? Stop whining about McCain! You’re making him stronger. Instead, fight FOR something.
Would I vote for McCain if he was the nominee? Maybe. He’s pro-life and that’s better than a Democrat. He wants to expand stem cell research. So maybe not.
But if this is the best Republicans have, [bleep] Republicans. If I wanted a liberal party, I’d vote Democrat.
