20 Reasons Not to like McCain
Now that Mitt Romney’s out of the race, Republicans have a choice: either embrace or totally reject John McCain. And even though the conservative media (Rush, Hannity, Coulter, Malkin, etc.) are totally anti-McCain, the voters seem to be on his side. I’m going to explore some reasons to not like John McCain:
- McCain called Sam Alito “too conservative.” Considering Alito (and John Roberts) are like blueprints on how to nominate a justice, this doesn’t bode well for him. A lot of people out there - including me - make abortion a high issue. We need good justices.
- He’s a member of the global warming hoax club. McCain seems to fully subscribe to the theory that global warming, caused by humans, is real. Ugh…you know my thoughts on this if you’re a regular reader. If not, let me sum up: global warming is real, and humans have virtually no effect on it. For a possible President to be caught up in this hoax seems strange to me.
- He favors expanding stem cell research. Big no-no. Not only that: he wants to expand it with federal funds! Uh…seriously? This is our conservative Republican nominee? No. This is our liberal Republican nominee.
- He could have joined John Kerry’s bid to get the White House in 2004. John Kerry is an East Coast liberal. That he even considered McCain is a red flag.
- He can’t debate with any of the Dems. McCain was one of the consistent poor debaters so far. He looks weak, he repeats himself more than anyone else, and he rarely looks his opponents in the eye. On the other hand, Mitt Romney could have easily poker-faced Obama to death.
- How he wanted to use the surplus back in the day: most of it going to Social Security. Erm, no.
- He made fun of Romney for sitting at home making “profits” while he fought for patriotism. Patriotism rules, but so do profits. I don’t know if I like a president sneering at money.
- He voted to ban drilling for oil in Alaska.
- He was against the Bush tax cuts in 2003. He eventually turned around in ‘06, for whatever reason. Why wouldn’t he always be for them?
- He’s hated by conservatives, his base. He wouldn’t come across well against Obama; he’s supposedly the veteran maverick of Republicans. But why wouldn’t people take Obama in that case? If they wanted to embrace conservative values, someone else would be in the lead.
- Also wanted surplus to go to Medicare.
- He says abortion is okay if the mother happend to be raped. Uh, does the baby cease to have a soul if the mother was raped?
- Weak on immigraiton. Meh.
- Big death penalty guy; again, not helping with the Catholic vote.
- Wants to expand health insurance to children.
- Wants to restrict tobacco more.
- He’s pretty old.
- Does anything about him make you think; this guy is destined to be President.
- Lied about all the “surge” stuff; other GOP guys were with it.
- He’s eager to work with Democrats.
In my research for this article, I found a lot of agreeable stuff that I like McCain on. So that will be the Monday post; he can’t be ALL bad.
