U.S.: 22nd Most Stable and Prosperous Nation
According to Jane’s Country Risk, the United States isn’t the world’s most stable and prosperous nation - and it’s not even in the top twenty. We rank in at #22, behind countries like the United Kingdom, Sweden, and the Vatican.
How did they rate it? Observe:
under the rating system, which took into account each nation’s political structures, social and economic trends, military and security risks and external relations, the Vatican state scored an average of 99 out of 100.
The United States still fared well, scoring an average of 93 out of 100, so it’s still considered a stable and prosperous nation.
Perhaps just as interesting are the countries on the bottom. Gaza and the West Bank was the absolute lowest, while countries like Sudan and Afghanistan were also bottom five.
Not in the bottom ten? Iraq.
[The editor at Jane’s Country Risk] explained that Iraq had managed to escape the ignominy of being in the bottom ten because, despite “extremely high levels of violence”, it had a “relatively stable Government” that controlled a significant area of the country and had good economic prospects.
I thought the surge wasn’t working because of political reasons, not the decrease in violence.
