Michelle Obama: A Political Issue?
Is Michelle Obama a political issue? Are Republicans sinking to new lows by attacking her?
For that matter, is Barack Obama right when he says this:
“The GOP, should I be the nominee, I think can say whatever they want to say about me, my track record,” Obama said. “I’ve been in public life for 20 years. I expect them to pore through everything that I’ve said, every utterance, every statement. And to paint it in the most undesirable light possible. That’s what they do.”
“But I do want to say this to the GOP. If they think that they’re going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful. Because that I find unacceptable,” he said.
So, the question: is it unacceptable to go after Barack Obama’s wife?
I say: no.
For starters, all political wives and even husbands know what they’re getting into, or at least have some idea of it, when their spouses run for President. Even Dennis Kucinich’s wife. If they actively campaign for their spouse, then they are an active part of that campaign and are subject to scrutiny.
For finishers, if these potential Presidents’ wives are going to influence policy, which is likely, then they’re under the microscope too.
This is Democracy, Barack. We get to vote on whatever the bleep kind of issue we want. If your eyebrows are too big for me, or your wife says she’s barely ever proud of her country, I don’t have to vote for you. Stop with the Presidential-entitlement attitude and talk some policy.
