A Possible VP Pick for John McCain: Paul Ryan

29 May 2008 No Comment

Paul Ryan (Republican U.S. Representative from Wisconsin’s 1st District) is the Bobby Jindal of Wisconsin:  a young, smart conservative.  Another similarity?  He’s been tossed around as a possible VP pick for McCain.  McCain, by the way, is visiting my home state today:

U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Janesville) will join Republican presidential nominee John McCain at this afternoon’s town hall meeting in Greendale, according to the McCain campaign.

Ryan has been mentioned by some observers as a possible vice presidential pick for McCain, most notably in February by columnist Robert Novak.

I’m pretty hesitant to throw out the future stars of the Republican party into the “younger/conservativer” role behind McCain.  But I can’t deny that Ryan would make a very interesting pick.

For one, he’s got big cojones.  See his “Roadmap for America’s Future,” which finally called for comprehensive entitlement reform, reduction in spending, and responsible fiscal management.  It’s one thing to talk about these things as conservatives – it’s another to actually lay it all out there.  Even some liberals praised him for at least having a definite plan.
