Who’s Going to See the Dark Knight?
One of the great things about movie theaters is that you get to go see a movie for the first time just when everyone else in America is seeing it, too. It gives even lame movies a kind of special aura that you can’t really get by seeing a movie when it comes out on DVD.
Usually, this aura isn’t worth it to me, but I’ve been planning to see The Dark Knight for months. Roger Ebert gives it a raving four-star review:
“Batman” isn’t a comic book anymore. Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” is a haunted film that leaps beyond its origins and becomes an engrossing tragedy. It creates characters we come to care about. That’s because of the performances, because of the direction, because of the writing, and because of the superlative technical quality of the entire production. This film, and to a lesser degree “Iron Man,” redefine the possibilities of the “comic-book movie.”
Add to that Heath Ledger’s apparently Hall of Fame performance combined with his death not long ago, this thing is set to be legendary.
Normally people don’t recommend getting your expectations too high for a movie. But since everyone’s raving about this movie, I say set them high. Who cares?
Who’s all seeing it?
