I Don’t Know

By now, I’ve come across a few bloggers and blogcommentpeople (of which I am both) giving their two cents about the Russia-Georgia conflict. Dad29 has a lot to say about it, criticizing local radio host Mark Belling for his thoughts.

As if we have any idea. Specifically local Wisconsin bloggers. We live in Wisconsin. We have no idea. I had to look up Georgia on Google Maps and was surprised to find out it borders Turkey. I had to Google “russia georgia conflict.” All I really know about it is the basic timeline described here.

I can hear the Sconnieblogs: Well, just because Dan from BipolarNation doesn’t know anything about it, doesn’t mean I don’t. I will continue to have a strong definitive opinion about this and exactly what we should do!

Sure, that’s easy from a laptop in the Upper Midwest. Meanwhile, criticize anything remotely decisive.

One side is complaining about Mark Belling’s “we’re going to have to send in troops” idea, and the other is comparing Russia to Nazi Germany.

What am I supposed to think? I know: I can ask myself two questions. One is, what would Winston Churchill do? The other is, what does the consensus of conservatives point to? I’m not going to listen to someone who’s just using Russia-Georgia to air out a beef with Mark Belling.

This much is evident: Russia is imperialistic - actually imperialistic unlike the freedom-spreading United States - and they want to avoid letting their satellites into NATO. Georgia is basically defenseless. If the U.S. and others in NATO don’t take strong action, Russia can say to countries like the Ukraine, “look - they won’t come to rescue you. What’s the point of being in NATO?”

But beyond the standard “be strong and decisive and unrelenting in your foreign policy,” which is one blatantly obvious thing liberals still haven’t figured out, I’m not going to offer anything original here. I have no ties to the Black Sea region. I’d never heard of South Ossetia before this.

So while I want to cover this issue, I won’t pretend to know all that much. In seeking information about it, I won’t consult Badger Nation.

But I’m still a genius when it comes to domestic policy.
