McCain Opens up Lead in Polls
Well, I was wrong. It seems I totally overestimated Barack Obama, because now McCain has grabbed the lead.
In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.
McCain leads Obama among likely U.S. voters by 46 percent to 41 percent, wiping out Obama’s solid 7-point advantage in July and taking his first lead in the monthly Reuters/Zogby poll.
What’s more, apparently this poll was taken Thursday through Sunday, which means McCain’s excellent performance at the Rick Warren forum might have pushed him up even further.
Of course, when I said Obama could win in a landslide, I also mentioned that it was because McCain was refusing to go negative. The past few weeks, that’s all McCain’s been doing, and it’s been working wonders. Maybe he read BipolarNation.com and said “wow, Dan’s a genius! I am a crusty old man who needs to make Obama react to me rather than the other way around!”
Now McCain is appearing more decisive on energy, the economy, and basically everything else, because Obama says “uh,” too much.
Now, of course, the VPs haven’t been announced and there are two conventions and some debates to be had. But McCain seems to have found his strategy.
