With the NFL regular season over (and the Bears out of the playoffs at 9-7), I have a little extra time to reflect on why I think football is so great to begin with. I could have called this post “10 Reasons to Become an NFL Fan,” but I realized that my second favorite sport is college football. So here are 10 reasons to become a football fan.
1. Join the monkey tribe.
Watching sports is like an outlet for our inner caveman tendencies, and the aggressiveness and violence of football makes …

I’m considering asking Russ Feingold to step down so I can take his Wisconsin U.S. Senate seat.
But Dan, you’re only 24 years old! You have no political experience!
Ah, but look at my name a little closer. Daniel. From the Hebrew. Not the name I’m talking about. No, I’m talking about Kenitz.
That’s right: Kenitz.
Carolina Kennedy seems to think that her name makes her qualified for the U.S. Senate – Kennedy is a historic name, after all. But I have three letters out of seven, and plus, I’m only talking about getting …

I’m writing this past midnight, so it’s technically Christmas Eve right now. It’s funny that even during a long Christmas season and a heavy winter, Christmas still seems to just roll up on you.
I thought I’d just type out a few of my quick Christmas thoughts this year.
Do we need Thanksgiving to give thanks? Experiencing an awesome Christmas in and of itself feels like enough for me to take a look around and say “wow, I have it pretty dang good.” Thanksgiving is great and all, but Christmas started by …

The title of this article is a little misleading. There is no way to “handle” the Big 3, at least not from the government’s perspective. You simply let them be – you know, like we used to back when America was free. It’s all too tempting to say “well, if I was President, here’s how I would fix it!”
You have good intentions probably, but your fixing will do to capitalism what fixing does to dogs.
How to “handle” the big three? Take Paul McCartney’s advice.
Of course, the autoworkers with their big …

The news this morning, aside from the snowstorms, is that President Bush is going to give $13 billion in federal loans to a bunch of car companies that couldn’t succeed on their own.
What happened, Bush? This is the same guy who wouldn’t give up – ever! – on Iraq. Now a few car companies might go bankrupt so it’s ready to abandon free market principles to save the free market?
You don’t save something by abandoning its principles, even if it’s temporarily.
The government now has control over 9 major banks. Do …

Around this time last year, I wrote:
It’s officially Christmas season now, so of course you’ve probably already been inundated with commercials, non-stop Christmas music radio, early-bird Christmas cards, and holiday decorations. Still, through the shuffle of our busy lives, these facts don’t change that Christmas is a Christian holiday celebrating the birth of Christ.
Yet atheists* often insist on celebrating it along with the rest of us. For example, take Richard Dawkins, a famous atheist (especially if you’ve seen “South Park”), who said “I like singing carols with everybody else” and …

In 1961, John F. Kennedy gave a speech in which he set the goal of landing a man on the moon before the closing of the decade. He is widely hailed for his vision and leadership for this.
In 1983, Ronald Reagan laid out plans for the Strategic Defensive Initiative, which would be able to stop nuclear missiles from hitting the U.S. The technology wasn’t quite there yet, like when JFK gave his speech, but Reagan was criticized much more.
Today, missile defense is becoming not only a possibility, but is turning …

Paul Ryan, the young conservative who I thought was going places because of his platform for entitlement reform, continues to disappoint me in regards to these bailouts going on.
If you hadn’t noticed, I crossed off Ryan’s name on my “favorite politicians” list in my About page because he voted for the megabailout.
Now, as Michelle Malkin notes, he voted for the autobailout, helping it pass in the House of Representatives:
The House tonight passed the UAW bailout bill 237-170, with 1 voting present and 26 not voting.
Here are the Republicans in the …

You’ve probably heard by now that Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich was arrested for trying to sell the U.S. Senate seat that Barack Obama is leaving behind.
That’s right – the bleeping U.S. Senate seat!
In one charge related to the appointment of a senator to replace Barack Obama, prosecutors allege that Blagojevich sought appointment for himseld as Secretary of Health and Human Services in the new Obama administration, or a lucrative job with a union, in exchange for appointing a union-preferred candidate.
Another charge alleges Blagojevich and Harris conspired to demand the firing …

Note: This article is also a contribution to the BPN Platform.
I have never so much as touched a marijuana cigarette (if, you know, that’s what the kids are calling it these days), but my libertarian streak tells me that I don’t have the right to tell you whether or not you should touch it. Some libertarians, like the uberlibertarian John Stossel even say that all drugs should be legalized, and that it’s an adult’s right to hurt themselves if that’s what they want.
Now, obviously, I’m going to make …
