Where’s the Post-Racialism?

26 January 2009 No Comment

I guess Michelle Obama is finding out how not-fun it is to be one of the most famous people in the world, considering every little move you make faces so much scrutiny that you get for your bleeping dresses.

The Black Artists Association is chiding FLOTUS for not choosing any African-American designers.

They will send a letter to FLOTUS’s office and appeal to her to include items from black designers in her wardrobe. BAA Cofounder Amnau Eele, who was a former runway model told Women’s Wear Daily:

“It’s fine and good if you want to be all ‘Kumbaya’ and ‘We Are the World’ by representing all different countries. But if you are going to have Isabel Toledo do the inauguration dress, and Jason Wu do the evening gown, why not have Kevan Hall, B Michael, Stephen Burrows or any of the other black designers do something too?”

By the way, if you’re confused about what FLOTUS is, I had to look it up.  I thought it was some organization, but turns out it just refers to the first lady.

Anyways, what is this?  Affirmative action in the fashion world?  I thought we were supposed to be in post-racial America now.
