A Timeline of Recent Regulation

21 March 2009 No Comment

Let’s see if I understand this whole AIG bonus situation.

  • The government legislates that more people should own houses, forcing banks to make loans to people who can’t afford to pay the loans back.  House prices soar and burst, beginning the financial crisis.  The government pays big money to huge banks like AIG.
  • Rahm Emmanuel says you shouldn’t waste a crisis.
  • Liberal Senator Chris Dodd puts in bonus protection into legislation to protect his chums at AIG.
  • The public finds out about hundreds of million dollars in AIG bonuses.
  • Now liberal congressman are all over it, pretending to be upset when money the government spent doesn’t work as well as it, well, ever can.
  • Idiots like Barney Frank want to pretend they’re on the side of the “average American,” when in reality the American people don’t want to spend all of this money.
  • Congress reveals the reality of taxes:  they can take out a stamp and decide you owe them money – even when they gave you the money in the first place.
  • Even supposed conservative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin votes along with the Dems.  Stevegg’s explanations of this fail to clarify things for Dan.
  • Barack Obama goes on The Tonight Show.
  • Now, according to Drudge, Obama will use this whole episode as an excuse to regulate how bonuses are paid at ALL BANKS and maybe even other companies – even if the taxpayers don’t fund those bonuses, it appears.
  • Big shots with no hope for big bonuses don’t waste their time trying to succeed, and the rot in the American economy inevitably trickles down, making the recession worse.
  • Idiot Democrats refuse to accept that this is wrong, instead going back on “Bush, Bush!” or “Palin!” counter-arguments.  Even though liberals do plenty of talking, it eventually becomes clear that they aren’t actually saying anything when they argue for regulation and spending.

I made up the last two, but that’s how I see things panning out.

How am I doing?
