One reason not to allow the government to create a “public option” in pursuit of better health care is simple: this is how liberals work.

Liberals in Congress fight, fight, fight against tax cuts on the wealthy even though the wealthy have most of the tax burden already. Why fight so hard against small tax cuts that would keep a progressive tax system, the way they want it, anyway? Probably because they believe that one small tax cut could lead to another, which would lead to another.

Is it starting to make sense now, liberals?

This is why I don’t want a “public option.” Governments expand. That’s what they do. Ancient Rome enjoyed Pax Romana until they regulated the money out of existence and collapsed in on themselves. Even Barney Frank admits that the public option road is how they get to the single-payer system, or the socialist, national healthcare plan.

Which, of course, would be a disaster.
