Elect A Liberal President, Get More Homework
Public school teachers will be deferring to their high priest next Tuesday (Sept. 8th), when Barack Obama is set to “deliver a national address directly to students” at noon, according to the Department of Education’s web site. As Michelle Malkin notes,
Instead of practicing cursive, reviewing multiplication tables, diagramming sentences, or learning something concrete, America’s kids will be lectured about the importance of learning.
Man. I once wrote a column about how lecture-style teaching wasn’t the most effective; now Obama’s holding lectures to talk about lectures. Apparently when you want to pay for everyone’s education preschool through college, you have to find ways to pass the time.
Not only is Obama wasting students’ time, he’s giving them homework. Again, according to Michelle Malkin:
According to White House event-related guides developed by the U.S. Department of Education’s Teaching Fellows, grade-school students will be told to “listen to the speech” and “could think about the following:”
*What is the President trying to tell me?
*What is the President asking me to do?
*What new ideas and actions is the President challenging me to think about?
• Students can record important parts of the speech where the President is asking them to do something. Students might think about: What specific job is he asking me to do? Is he asking anything of anyone else? Teachers? Principals? Parents? The American people?
After the speech, teachers will ask students:
*What do you think the President wants us to do?
*Does the speech make you want to do anything?
*Are we able to do what President Obama is asking of us?
I disagree with Bill Clinton on many things, but at least he didn’t give us homework.
What, Obama can’t get enough exposure? He has to talk to every kid in America? When conservatives argue that state-run nationalized education doubles as a vast liberal brainwashing system, it’s because of stories like this. This isn’t the President making a cute P.R. appearance by reading to a third grade class in the District of Columbia. This is Big Brother specifically asking kids “What is the President asking me to do?” I don’t give a flying fudge about what the President thinks I should do, and kids shouldn’t either.
If George W. Bush wanted to hold a speech and address every student in the nation on school time, Michael Moore would have been arrested outside the White House with bombs strapped to his body.
Many liberals fight to keep God out of the classroom. Why can’t they keep Obama out of it?
