I Actually Do Love Capitalism, Michael Moore

BPN Elder Statesman TalonJohn brought up Michael Moore’s most recent movie, titled Capitalism: A Love Story.
With Moore going around and saying that capitalism is legalized greed, and that capitalism did nothing for him, I want to clear things up for the politically uninitiated of my readers who aren’t sure how to feel.
First, Capitalism Ain’t Really a “System”
“Capitalism,” according to Wikipedia, is this:
Capitalism typically refers to an economic and social system in which the means of production (also known as capital) are privately controlled
But looking at capitalism as a “system” …

Updating the annual tradition of trying to predict the Oscar winners. Last year, I did great with the big categories – I nailed Picture, Director, Actor, Actress (I think, I’m too lazy to look it up), Supporting Actor, Original/Adapted Screenplay (again, I think, too lazy).
Well the Oscars are back, and once again I haven’t seen most of the movies to come out – though I’m more interested in doing that this year as opposed to last year. I should add that I get a lot of help from …

No Oscar nomination for Best Picture for The Dark Knight.
Robert Downey, Jr. gets nominated for best supporting actor for Tropic Thunder. Oh, we’re nominating comedy performances now? Someone tell Jim Carrey.
The Oscars are so dumb.

Y’all know that, like any other reasonable and logical person, I’m a Star Trek fan, right? Well, an interesting thing is happening to the franchise – it’s getting a re-boot, modern-day Batman style.

Daily Mail sez:
The eagerly anticipated Star Trek film is set to cast off the geeky associations of the sci-fi genre with a handsome cast, vicious fights and sex scenes.
A trailer for the new movie was released online on Monday, no doubt fuelling the excitement of Trekkies around the world ahead of the film’s release next year.
The fast-paced …

Here’s the new trailer for Oliver Stone’s movie, “W.”:
Looks pretty lame to me. It’s already common knowledge that Bush used to be a BlackSheep/BadBoy partier – big deal, old news, he’s almost not the President anymore. Besides, isn’t Bill Clinton’s life in the White House even more saucy than that?
I’ll admit, I’d see this if all I had to do was switch to On-demand, but I probably won’t see it in the theatre or bother trying to go rent it when it comes out on …

One of the great things about movie theaters is that you get to go see a movie for the first time just when everyone else in America is seeing it, too.  It gives even lame movies a kind of special aura that you can’t really get by seeing a movie when it comes out on DVD.
Usually, this aura isn’t worth it to me, but I’ve been planning to see The Dark Knight for months.  Roger Ebert gives it a raving four-star review:
“Batman” isn’t a comic book anymore. Christopher Nolan’s “The …

The greatest epic movie actor of all time – the icon, Charlton Heston – died Saturday night at 84. Though it’s sad to see him go, I’d prefer to re-live and attempt explain Charlton Heston’s pure awesomeness for those of you who either 1. don’t know of him or 2. didn’t like his NRA affiliations.
The Ten Commandments
The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Charlton Heston – the greatest epic movie actor of all time – is the greatest epic movie of all time: …

Since 2000 I can remember going category-by-category and predicting who would win each Oscar, but I’ve never posted my predictions up on BipolarNation before the actual night.  Considering that the Oscars are this Sunday and I only have this one weekday to post before it happens, it’s the perfect time to do it.
Get pumped, baby!  It’s the Oscars!  Even in a relatively weak year like this (though not as bad as the 2006 awards; remember “Crash” beating out “Brokeback Mountain”?), this is always fun.  The beauty of picking the Oscars …

There’s been an internet fad going around that I’ve decided to investigate. It’s a made-for-online movie called “Zeitgeist,” (link here) and it’s like The Da Vinci Code times ten.
Supposedly, it weaves three supposed conspiracies together: the Bible being designed to control the masses, September 11th was staged by the U.S. for power, and rich bankers control the world.
Obviously, it’s crazy and wrong. But you can’t deny the entertainment value. It’s like watching those UFO shows on SciFi every half year or so – you watch the …

Do not mess with the media.  They are evil.
Angeline Jolie learned that lesson the hard way this week.  After setting strict standards for who and what could appear to question her at the premier of “A Mighty Heart,” her new movie, the media went nuts.
She initially banned Fox News from the event – which, of course, was hyped on Fox News – and demanded that reporters limit their questions to non-relationship issues.
Even gay blogger Perez Hilton was with Fox News on this one.  The media has one thing going for …
