A recent article in Guardian.co.uk laid out an interesting take on much of the psychology behind some feminine behaviors that otherwise may look a little strange. Since I’ll use any old excuse to post a picture of Dayana Mendoza, this seems like as good a time as any to post a few of my own reflections.

There’s a big hubbub this week about the potential missing link – a lemur-like fossil of some creature that existed some 47 million years ago.
James T. Harris has this to say:
OK, check it out. So according scientists, “Ida is linked to humans by the talus bone in her ankle which is the same shape.” They also said, “her opposable big toes and nails, not claws, confirmed she was a primate.”
Eureka! Cousin Ida! Missing link found. Man evolved from apes around 75 million years ago because it’s really hard to pinpoint …

Slowly, mainstream pop science is beginning to catch up with evolutionary theory. This time, it’s a Vanity Fair article entitled “Why Women Aren’t Funny.”
Gasp! Something based in scientific study suggesting the genders aren’t equal?! How dare they!
Of course, most of us are blind to the inequalities of the genders because said inequalities are instilled in our brains from Aladdin to Finding Nemo to…anything else you can buy or has commercials.
In other words, why haven’t you ever noticed that women really aren’t that funny? Boldness added by …

British scientists are going to be allowed to research diseases using “human-animal” embryos, leading many to wonder what kind of path British medicine is going down: the way of Dr. Jonas Salk or Dr. Frankenstein.
They’re called “admixed” embryos, and feature putting human cell nuclei into animal eggs. The theoretical embryos wouldn’t be allowed to live for more than two weeks.
Like most of this kind of embryo-level research, critics are saying that not only does this kind of research cross some weird and immoral boundaries, but that the benefits …

It’s been my longstanding opinion that people aren’t born gay, at least not in the sense that most people would understand it. As far as I see it, though, when I debate this topic with other people, there are three possibilities in the world of “gay formation”:
1. Gay people are born like the rest of us, but consciously make a decision to become gay.
2. Gay people are born like the rest of us, and unconsciously make a decision to become gay.
3. Gay people are born gay and have no choice, …

I’ve said it before: men are be an endangered species. It looks like scientists have been able to synthetically (i.e., not naturally) create “immature” sperm (remember, according to HealthBolt, that’s not the only kind of sperm) from bone marrow.
It’s just a small step against men right now. The real question, of course, is: will men ever get to have eggs and impregnate themselves? Should we even allow that – you don’t want 1,000,000 Star Wars nerds who previously couldn’t find good mates to be making copies of …

This just in: it’s impossible for men to be sexist. See point 10.
Evolutionary psychology rules. Within books like “The Mating Mind” or “The Red Queen,” you can find out exactly why people do the crazy things they do, and even the answers to weirder questions like ‘why are there TWO genders, not one or three?’ (Think about that one for a while.)
I bring this up because I found what is easily the best “scientific” article I’ve seen in a while. “Ten Politically Incorrect Truths About …

The missing link has been found! Dr. Alan Grant from Jurassic Park was right! Okay, I’m getting ahead of myself, but it looks like China found the remains of a surprisingly bird-ish dinosaur. Scientists fought off dozens of Chinese sous chefs who quickly tried to serve it with soy sauce.
Eight meters (26 ft) long and standing at twice the height of a man at the shoulder, the fossil of the feathered but flightless Gigantoraptor erlianensis was found in the Erlian basin in Inner Mongolia, researchers wrote in the latest issue …

For my married readers:
Scientific research into the long debated question of whether the toilet seat should be up or down suggests that the social norm of leaving it down is actually inefficient.
An Indian economist, the latest scholar to weigh in on the issue, supports these findings but has devised a series of mathematic formulas to show that when the female “nag” factor is part of the equation, the man would rather deal with the inconvenience than hear the woman yell.
Yes, the nag factor is quite the variable. Actually, seeing “female …

One of the main beefs creationists/non-evolutionists have with the Theory of Evolution is that there is supposedly a lack of fossil evidence to support it: we have ape bones, human bones, so where are all the ape-man bones?
Bam!
Non-evolutionists probably aren’t aware of Runaway Theory, which suggests that evolution as a process (like ape brain to current human brain) happens really fast, and all at once, instead of at some steady and magical fixed pace.
The significance of this new discovery? Apparently, all scientists wanted to know is if this species could …
